Gallager Carbine, .50 cal. percussion single shot military. Serial #9984, mfg. 1861 by Richardson and Overman, Philadelphia, PA. Antique. Civil War carbine that saw use by both sides during the war - Ohio, Tenn., W. VA, SC. Gray patina on all metal surfaces. Wear on the lockplate has obscured some of the maker's name and patent dates (see photo). Iron patchbox. Buttstock is choicolate brown and nicely preserved. Locks up tightly. Saddle ring and saddle ring bar. One blurred screw on left frame side. Three leaf rear sights. Post front sight. 22 1/4" round barrel has a good bore. Very exciting Civil War find!
