Gibbs Carbine, .52 cal. percussion single shot carbine.  NSN, mfg., by W. F. Brooks, NY.  Good condition.  Rare Civil War Carbine used by Missouri Cavalry and New York Cavalry. 22” round barrel has excellent bore with strong rifling, correct sights, no remaining finish.  Receiver and lock plate have crisp address and patent makings and American Eagle stamping.  Saddle ring present on left side.  Couple of dinged screws.  Stock has lots of original finish with numerous handling marks, correct butt plate.  Unique lever operated tilt-down action works perfectly.  These are extremely rare - only 1052 mfg. before factory burned down during New York draft riots of 1863!  A highlight of any Civil War collection!
