J. Dougal Lockfast, 10 ga. side by side hammer gun.   Serial #3056, mfg. Scotland 1870’s.  Good condition.  "Best Gun". 36” Damascus barrels have pitting in bores, old brown finish with lots of surface corrosion.  2 7/8” chambers, bore FULL/FULL.  Faint rib inscription reads: “J. D. Dougal, Gun & Rifle Makers to HRH, the Prince of Wales, 59 St. James, London”. Frame and lock plates have extensive fine scroll engraving, beautifully sculpted breech faces, lots of fine surface corrosion.  Elegant, classic Dougal swept back hammers.  Barrel flats and water table have London proof marks.  Stock and forearm have very good original finish and extensive worn checkering with numerous light marks.  Beautiful skeletonized butt plate has extensive, worn checkering.  Famous Lockfast action is tight, locks work perfectly.  An elegant old water fowler from the Victorian era - finest quality!  Antique, can ship to your door.
