Bore is dark, but strong rifling. Vivid marks with 1856 patent date. Saddle bar and ring. Barrel band. Barrel is marked "Cast Steel 1862" with some fading blue, but mostly gray. Receiver has mutted case color and some bright blue on the lower breech parts. Rear sling swivel. Steel butt. Flip up rear sights. Post front sight. Designed by Union General Ambrose E. Burnside.
