Newton Arms Co. Model 1916, .256 Newton cal. bolt action rifle.  Serial #1693, mfg. Buffalo, NY, 1916.  Very good condition.  Rare and highly collectible! 24” barrel has very good rifling with slightly rounded lands.  Barrel has 85% blue with crisp address markings, some fine surface rust. Correct front and two-leaf rear sights.  Receiver has 70% blue with some edge wear, nice stippled bridges.  Unique Newton multi-lug bolt is fitted with bolt peep sight, but missing flip-up sight staff.  Newton take-down floor plate and double-set triggers have 70% original finish with some fine surface rust.  Stock has very good finish and checkering with some light handling marks, steel grip cap has some fine surface rust.  Bolt action is “smooth as silk” and double set triggers work perfectly.  These are the best of the Newton rifles, and the .256 cal. was his most useful round!  Rarely seen!  C&R OK.
