Mighty fine Conn. contract Peabody Rifle with 33" round barrel and good bore. Strong rifling, but a bit dark. Gray gun going now to a nice smooth patina. Vivid markings. 1862 patent date on the left side of the receiver. Wood is very good. Mechanics are super nice - cocks nicely with a tight action. Flip-up rear ladder sight. Post front sight. Steel cleaning rod. Two barrel bands. Rear sling swivel plate is marked with the contract markings of "Conn. 1078". Interesting variation of which only 2000 were made, so collectible! Antique.
