U.S. Springfield Model 1884 "Cadet", .45-70 cal. single shot rifle. Serial #25435, mfg. 1874. Fair condition. 39 ½” barrel has worn rifling, good overall finish turning brown. Breech block is early high-arch type with "US Eagle" stamped on top. Extractor is missing. Lock is stamped "US 1884” – so probably Bannerman assembly. Sling swivels added. Two-piece trigger guard. Stock has decent finish with numerous hits and dings. Action works OK. Antique, can ship to your door.

Tight lock-up with top lever over right. Bluing is 95% with some freckling on barrel and few marks. Left cheekpiece on walnut stock has some marks. Red recoil pad is hard and exhausted, so well have to be replaced. Extractors. Double triggers. Tang safety. Nicely checkered. Wide beavertail forearm has some deep marks and one chunk out (see photo). Front brass bead. 2 3/4" chambers. Take it hunting! Roll some briar bunnies! Gunrunner West item.

Frame, slide and barrel have 90% blue finish with light overall wear with the heaviest wear at the chamber. The barrel has an extra set of numbers of the left side "5869.28". Wood one-piece checkered grip is in very good shape with a left side thumb rest. Blue magazine is marked "33" on the side and is in very good condition. These are prized target pistols and some early German history here. Import marked on the bottom of the frame. C&R OK.

Date on the slide is 42. 5" barrel has good rifling with some darkness, fixed military sights. Barrel has 85% blue with some pitting and rust on the surface and front sight. Slide has 90% blue with scattered pit and rust marks. Frame has 80% finish with use wear and some scattered light pitting and rust. Lined bakelite grips are in good shape with surface wear. P-38 post war magazine is in good shape. No visible import mark. Some WWII history here. C&R OK.

Receiver and trigger guard have 30% finish turning patina. Target grade receiver has raised rib base, military ordnance, "U.S." and inspector’s mark on left side. Stock and forearm have very good original finish with slightly worn checkering, correct butt plate and grip cap. Rear of forearm appears to have been cut down. Slide action works fine. Appears to be a WWII trainer for fighter pilots. C&R OK.
